Course: Paranormal Investigation 101

Grading Policy:
100-90 = A
89-84 = B
83-72 = C
71-60 = D
59 or lower = Failing

Participation in classroom discussions and group exercises counts toward grade.

Students who pass with a “ C “ or better will attend an end of course investigation and receive
a certificate of completion from The Arizona Paranormal Research Society organization.

Attendance:

Because this class only meets a total of 6 times, it is very important that students attend every
class. However, life happens and things do come up at the last minute. If you are going to be
absent from a class, please contact the instructor so that they are aware that you will not be
attending for that day. It is the responsibility of the student to obtain notes and copies of
study materials and handouts from a fellow student.

Students are expected to come to class prepared with pen/pencil and paper for note taking.
Study materials will be provided by the instructor in the form of lesson handouts.

Students are expected to arrive in class on time and be ready to start at the scheduled time.
Three or more tardies will result in exclusion from end of course investigation. If you expect to
be late to class, please contact your instructor.

Classroom Behavior:

All students are expected to treat fellow classmates with kindness and respect. If anyone is
observed disobeying this rule, they will automatically be dropped from the class and will NOT
be entitled to a refund.

Please refrain from talking while the instructor is speaking. This is disrespectful to the
instructor as well as fellow classmates. Above disciplinary rule applies after 3rd warning from
instructor student will be dropped from class and not entitled to a refund.

Cell Phone – Blackberry – PDA - Laptop’s Policy:

All cell phones and like devices must be turned off or on vibrate for the entire duration of the
class. If you must take or make a call, please step out of the classroom to do so. Absolutely
NO texting or web surfing will be allowed during class ( This includes laptop computers).
If any student is observed texting or surfing the web during class they will receive
a warning for the first offense.
2nd offense will result in the student being excluded from the end of course investigation.
3rd offense, the student will be dropped from the course and NOT be entitled to a refund.
NO EXCEPTIONS!

Breaks: There will be one 15 minute break during each class.

Course Objective:

The objective of this course is to give the student a basic understanding of paranormal
investigation and supply the student with the basic knowledge of how to conduct an
investigation.

Week 1-
Introduction of course.
Rules and Regulations for investigators during an investigation.
Basic necessities of an investigator.

Week 2 -
Basic equipment of an investigator.
Equipment review. Hands on demonstrations of basic equipment and what it is used for
during an investigation.
Investigation safety.

Week 3 -
Quiz on material from weeks 1 & 2.
What is EMF? We will look at what can cause high EMF in an area as well as what is a
normal EMF reading.
How does EMF affect the human body and possible spirit activity in a location?
What are orbs? Are they actually spirits or just dust?

Week 4 -
Learn the different types of a haunting and how they are different.
What causes a place to be haunted? We will look at different scenarios that may contribute
to spirit activity in a location.
Why we need to be concerned about the geological content at a possible haunted location and
what it means to the outcome of an investigation.

Week 5 -
Quiz on material from Week 3 & 4
EVP Protocols: How to conduct an EVP session. In class group activity. Students will be
presented with a case scenario and will be paired together and create a list of possible EVP
questions they would ask during an investigation.
We will go over them in class and discuss what each team came up with.
Still camera, Audio Recorder and Video Camera protocols.
Discuss the best Audio and Photographic free software available to review evidence.
End of course Investigation :)

Week 6 -
Review evidence from Group investigation. Bring in any Audio or Photographic evidence that you
believe you captured during the investigation for review by instructor and your classmates.
This will be considered your final exam for the class. You will be graded on certain criteria that
will be given to you to follow before the investigation begins.
End of course celebration!!!

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

1. Identify the basic protocols and tools needed to conduct a professional and thorough
investigation of a possible haunted location.
2. Understand how to use an EMF meter, IR or Ambient Thermometer, audio recorders,
cameras and necessary software.
3. Understand how EMF works and be able to determine safe and unsafe levels in a location.
4. Distinguish the difference between true orbs and dust or pollen.
5. Tell the difference between the two most common types of hauntings.
6. How to conduct an effective EVP session.
7. Analyze photos using online software.
8. Analyze audio recordings using online software.
9. Work together as a team and conduct an investigation.
